Randy Brecker and Tim Hagans play “Boooo” with the Norrbotten Big Band.
Randy and Tim are briefly interviewed, and it is great to hear Randy discuss the music; how to draw the audience into the music, not to over-blow etc.
A translation of Tim’s interview (thanks, Jon!)
“It’s actually like flying. With the Norbotten Big Band, we rehearse a lot, we discuss small details, dynamics, whether we should play short, long, who’s going to play the solo. There is a lot of discussion.”
“When you get up on the stage, everything works. Even though there is a feeling of <insert unknown american word here…perhaps “free”?> jazz, a lot of improvisation, and anything can happen, everything works. It’s an amazing feeling. It’s like the whole stage is like a spaceship going up into the air. It feels great. That’s the way it’s supposed to be. And it’s that feeling that we try to give to the public so that they can also go on the space journey with us.”
Two trumpet soloists in a big band idiom who aren’t only interested in adding a semi-tone (octave?) to the previous solo! Enjoy…
